Week 3 - #7 Technology

Lets see - what interests me? I have a digital camera that I am constantly working with to upload pictures to my computer and touch them up and shrink them so I can email them. I would like to get a webcam for my computer so I can see my grandchildren in VA Beach and Hawaii when I talk to them. This is definitley something I am working on with my children.

Week 3 #6- Flickr Mashups

I went into the Mappr and got the alert that "connection was reset" - if computer is protected by firewall make sure the Firewall is permitted to access Web. So I stopped there. Then I went into Yahoo Travel and pretended to plan a trip to Rome, Italy.

Week 9 Summary

Yeah! I 've finished! It took quite a bit of time but I am happy to have done it. I have to admit there was some frustration involved.
I do feel that I have learned a lot. I did most of the work at home and it took more time than I thought it would. When I got stuck I called or asked someone when I came to work. Again thanks to all who helped.
When I first started Web 2.0 learning I didn't even know much about blogs. Now I have my own blog and I am now familiar with blogs, wikis, googledocs, librarythings, podcasts, youtube, Flickr, RSS feeds, bloglines . Wow!
I do feel it has been a worthwhile experience and am glad I participated!

Week 9 Overdrive or NetLibrary

Yeah! I am at least somewhat familiar with Overdrive and NetLibrary. I went to a workshop when we first started with Overdrive and downloaded an E Book. I haven't downloaded an audiobook yet. I opened an account with NetLibrary when we first got it. May be time for another one!
In the future I am going to try to download an audiobook.
I do get positive response from patrons who are downloading books.

week 9 - Podcasts

Doing web 2.0 learning gave me some exposure to podcasts as we had to listen to them to do our exercises. I went into the 3 different podcasts listed and the one I liked was the yahoo podcasts. The other 2 said I needed to install a missing plugin.. So I stopped there. I looked at the different podcasts in yahoo podcasts . I liked the NPR Books podcast and Tara helped me add it to my bloglines. Thanks, Tara. I'm glad you were working at Walkersville today!!!
I know what I was doing wrong. I was copying the wrong URL. Now I know. Just part of learning!

Week 9 - Youtube-Why gorillas arent allowed in the library

The Sesame Street video didn't play so I am trying another one!

Week 9 -YouTube

I tried to upload this video at home yesterday and couldn't do it. I set up an account with YouTube and added this video to my favorites. That's as far as I got. Marybeth helped me today by showing me how to edit the blog name. Once I did that it was easy to upload to my blog. Thanks, Marybeth.

Week 8 - Web 2.0 Awards

I went into the Web 2.0 awards and of course choose Books as the category I was interested in. I did look at bookmarking, health, video and travel. Lots of information here and certainly worthwhile coming back to. I think this is pretty neat and just being exposed to all of this is helpful. Some I like more than others and will use.
Lulu.com, biblio.com and librarything.com were the top 3 winnersin the book awards category. I really like librarything as I said before I will use this for my bookclubs. Biblio.com is useful for out of print books. Lulu didn't look as easy to use to me as librarything.

Week 8 - Online Productivity Tools

I choose Google docs to create my documents. I like the layout and was able to use my blogger email and password so I don't have to add another email and password to my list. I put my bookclub groups in a document that I can access from home on my PC . I like the idea of being able to have this information from any PC. I like the fact that I don't have to purchase Microsoft Office now and have the availabilty of word processing and spreadsheet on my PC. Will practice with the spreadsheet when I have more time.

Week 7 - Learning 2.0 Sandbox wiki

I went into the Sandbox wiki and added my name under FCPL list.
I think it did it right! It's cool that everyone is adding their blog to the list!

Week 7 - Wikis

I found reading about Wikis interesting. The one I liked and bookmarked on my home computer is Princeton Public Library's Booklovers Wiki. I am always interesred in reading book reviews and what other book lovers are reading. I especially like the index to the Review! I will use this site for sure!

Week 6 Library 2.0, Web 2.0

I found all of this very interesting and over my head. I like the "Check neaby Libraries" feature that was added to the online public access catalog in Santa Monica Public Library.
Check out tips and tricks OCLC.
I find all of this mind boggling but do look forward to the new technology of the future and the training that goes along with it. The reason I am doing "23 things" is to be exposed to some of the new technology.

Week 6 Technorati

I went into Technorati and put in learning 2.0 search and the results were 25,536 blog posts about learning 2.0 Here is my results: technorati.
Looks interesting and I will probably revisit this when I have more time.

Week 6 deli.cio.us

I went into deli.cio.us and didn't sign up for it because right now I am signed up for more than I would ever use. I did look at it and don't think I'd use it.

Week 5 Rollyo

I went into Rollyo and created an account and set up some search rolls- cooking, reading, and news. I can see where this is a good way to organize your most popular sites.

Week 5 LIbrary Thing

I went into librarything.
This is a good tool to keep track of books read. I like the suggestion tab.

Week 5 Online Image generator!

I tried to download the yahoo avatar and didn't have any luck. I played with the Letter James Image Gallery and finally was able to load this image! I'm not sure if I am having fun yet????

Week 4 Merlin

I explored Merlin and even signed up for an account! I looked at the library news blogs and went into Library Journal News. I wasn't aware that Merlin was available and such a good resource. Always learning something new!

Hawaii

It has taken me over an hour or so to figure this out. It looks like it worked! I set up a Flickr account and uploaded this photo to Flickr and then to my blog. This is my technology posting for this week: learning how to use Flickr and then uploading the photo to my Blog!

Week 2: 71/2 Habits

Are we having fun yet? I guess the hardest habit for me is using technology to my advantage. Not having practiced using it like the students today it isn't something that comes easy to me. When I learn it I am fine with it. I usually have to learn hands on, reading a tech book is not my thing. Hopefully I'll learn some new tech tips along this journey and have fun doing it. It's great having so many of us in it together. Yeah for teamwork!!! I have a great team at my branch and am thankful for their help. The easiest habit is accepting responsibility for my learning. I consider myself an active participant and do ask questions. I also like to help and teach others.
Aloha for now!

Week 1&2 : Introduction & Blogging/Testing!

Whew! Just got back from 2 weeks in Hawaii, holding and playing with my grandbabies and have lots to catch up on. Am I feeling overwhelmed??? Just getting over jetlag. Will get into the swing of things soon.
Week 1:
I read about the program and learned a few pointers from lifelong learners. I think I keep nuturing my learning process just by my desire to learn about new things and I have just started piano lessons as an adult a year ago.
Week 2: The fact that you are reading this proves I set up my blog and registered it!
